Immersion Summary:
From June 25 - July 31 2009, the Pangaea Partnership will host the Pangaea Immersion program to connect North American, Latin American and African Youth. The theme: “The Role of Youth in Development and Strategies for Social Change.” Our objective is to offer American students the opportunity to explore the culture and society in Peru and Uganda, while connecting with their counterparts and engaging in service projects that will uplift local communities.
In the summer of 2009,
the Pangaea Partnership will bring 10 student volunteers to Peru and Uganda
on the “Pangaea Immersion” to explore the culture, society and
connect with local people making a real difference in these two countries.
This program is the precursor to future programs and seminars that we hope
to host in Africa, Latin America and the United States on the role of youth
in social and community change.

Volunteers will learn about African and Andean culture, social issues, and will complete a study project that promotes positive social change in the local community and participate in local excursion trips to enhance the cultural experience. We hope to raise awareness and advocacy for African and Andean Communities by having students study some of the following topics:
• Poverty and related social issues
• Peace Building
• Education – illiteracy and attendance
• Abuse, Family issues, and orphans
• Economy, workers issues, and job training
• Current Infrastructure, Architecture, and related services
• Globalization and foreign interaction
• Environmental conservation
